Joe Castrucci is a busy individual. As the man behind Habitat he's responsible for laying out the ads, coming up with graphics for the boards, wheels, and t-shirts, and producing the hotly anticipated Habitat video.
That's three full-time jobs, but Joe's a levelheaded guy and always manages to stay on top of it all. We caught up with Joe to ask him a few questions about what he's up to.

How did you hook up with Workshop?
They put an ad in the paper and I sent my portfolio and a video reel.

Did you have to adapt your art sensibilities to fit their style or were you already doing similar looking art?
I definitely had to adapt. Luckily, I wasn't that experienced in the graphics department soI really learned how to do things at the Workshop.

How did you get into making videos?
I started making hometown skate videos with friends and it slowly evolved into my role in the local skate scene. Then I bought a computer and the software and learned on my own with some help from my friend Vince.

Is the Habitat video going to have the classic Workshop look and treatment or is it going to go into a different direction?
I think it will be inspired by [Mike] Hills original AWS look but it'll be a new direction. I have a look in my head I want to achieve.

Will there be an Alien and/or Seek section?
We are not sure about a Seek section but Dill and Papps are going to have amazing parts in the AWS section. I think that section will be more original AWS style editing. The Seek part will probably showcase the Ams and if it's long enough might be released on its own.

How hard is it to name a video?
It's the hardest part. I usually leave it to Don [Pendleton] and Hill. Don came up with the name Photosynthesis.I don't even want to release the name until we are in editing.

How much leeway do Hill and Chris Carter [owners of the Workshop] give you with the video?
They give me as much creative freedom as I need on my video and graphics. I'm sure if they didn't like something they'd let me know. I'm sure Hill will be creatively involved with this next video.

When is the Habitat video going to come out?
I don't want to say. I don't want to set any expectations.

As a video maker are you glad Love is gone?
Yes and No. It was good training and it looks good in lines but I'd like to see some new and more creative spots.

Who's going to have the last part?
I have no idea.

Chocolate skateboards mainstay and Stussy poster boy, Scott Johnston fills us in on Zoolander, his questionable friendship with Mike Carroll, booking the Sprite tour, and the dangers of smoking cigarettes.

Is Mike Carroll both your best friend and your worst enemy or your worst friend and your best enemy?
Hah, hah...if I would have to pick between the two I'd say best friend, 'cause as a friend he actually can talk about some real stuff. You probably wouldn't believe it but he has good advice for others. As my worst enemy, he's constantly on my back.

How's living with Dimitry from Jackass?
It's mellower than anybody thinks. People trip when they hear we live together. He's got the Jackass/Big Brother image going but, he's somewhat of a homebody with a few random party spurts. He also is a best friend/worst enemy.

Favorite line from your favorite film, Zoolander?
"I dig the bungee. It's how I live my life. I just grip it and rip it." -Owen Wilson. But honestly it changes weekly and there are so many good lines.

What's harder, thinking of a place skate or thinking of places eat?
That's a good one Aaron. Probably think of a place to skate 'cause at least you know you won't get kicked out of the restaurant you pick unlike skating.

How was the heavily booked Sprite tour?
Harsh to medium harsh. It would have been dope if it wasn't Sprite. I realized after being on it that for a company as big they are could have put us up in five-star hotels and drive us around it the illest bus. But that's not how it was. This corporate company was using us to make them seem cool in our world. It probably didn't work though. But on the up side, it was dope to travel with a different crew that you normally wouldn't get a chance to travel with. Oh yeah, we met Willy, the bus driver, he's the coolest.
